Have you ever seen Rubgy? Do you have a daughter? Let me help you out if you have never seen rugby played. Don't let you daughter's grow up to play rugby. Hope is playing girls rugby for the Rogers High School as a 5 foot 1 inch tall, 100 pound 8th grader. She had never seen a game before she signed up for the season on Thursday of this week. She was already in a tournament today. In the snow...and the cold..on April 5th! Which means that I was so lucky to have been able to cheer her on from the sidelines for 4 hours today in the snow and the cold.
Here is the impression of Rugby from a mother of a daughter playing Rugby for the first time. Apparently I didn't get the memo that Rugby players should be built like tanks with rare disorders that do not allow them to feel pain. They should relish in the sight of blood and not mind bruised ribs. They must be able to have no emotional reaction when harming the general well being of other players. And they can never ever be concerned about getting mud in their mouths when full body tackling some one from the other team. And above all, as a rugby player, you can never, ever mention that you like to watch Hannah Montana in your spare time.
Okay, now, like I was saying...these are just my observations and I will be the first to admit that I could be entirely wrong. Okay, I am quite sure I am entirely wrong...but watching girls play something like football with absolutely no safety equipment or padding, can cause a mom to say irrational things. Oh "scrum"(it is a rugby term for those of you who aren't as enlightened as I am now.)
....and I thought this was a good idea when she said she wanted to try a new sport...
and by the way, she loves it!!
