Maisy is at Mpls Children's Hospital. She was admitted on Tuesday with a 104.6 (axillary) temp. They first thought it was a Urinary Tract Infection, then a kidney infection and then, when more of the tests came back...they have determined that she has a septic (blood) infection.
She is on multiple IV antibiotics to try and kill the germs involved.
They did a VCUG test which tells us if Maisy's bladder is refluxing into her kidneys...the usual way kids her age get kidney infections. That test was normal. Now, they are thinking that she had a lung infection that went to her blood and supsequently to her kidneys.
The doctor said today that it was so good that we brought Maisy to the hospital when we did. The doctors were assuming that she had the most common virus that is going around right now that involves high fevers. Maisy's temp had risen very abruptly and her arms and legs were shaking...we were really concerned that she would have a febrile seizure. I am so thankful to hear that we were right when we felt led to bring her in when we did, but it also scares me. Realizing that if we had not brought her in when we did, the outcome could have been much more serious. I don't want to consider the possibilities... I just want to hold her tight and give thanks for every day with her..
So, Maisy is being a trooper. She is charming the nurses and showing off all of the sign language she knows. She keeps signing "outside" to me--meaning she wants to get out of here! During the time when her fever was raging, she would sign "drink" to us over and over...poor baby.
So, please pray for Maisy. Also, pray for the other kids. We have had reservations for over two years for a timeshare that was suppose to begin tomorrow for a week in Wisconsin Dells. Knowing I couldn't leave Maisy for the whole week, Mark had planned on bringing some of the kids and then I would have met him with a few other ones for two days. Most likely not going to happen now... Obviously we understand that these things happen-- but I know it is hard for the kids. They seem to be very understanding of it all and that makes me want to get them to the Dells at least for a few days all the more. They are very concerned about Maisy and have been very helpful around home while I have been at the hospital.
Miss Maisy is pretty popular at Children's. It seems like most of the staff there remember her from when she was little. She spent her first 9 months there. She is so much bigger than she was when they remember her..and so much more interactive and smily. She is enjoying all the attention.
Please pray that her sepsis clears up and that the doctors are able to get some answers as to why this happened..
