I know that I didn't spend my 19th birthday at a giraffe refuge in Nairobi getting up close and personal with the native wildlife! Albeit, my 19th birthday probably had something to do with wildlife, but that was a whole different world I had created for myself back then. Tyler turned 19 today. He spent his 19th birthday with a short term missionary team from Grace Church in Roseville who had just arrived in Kenya. Tyler had volunteered with the junior high youth group there before he left overseas. I was thankful to hear that a team was going to be there and was able to celebrate his birthday with him. I even was able to send along a birthday gift for him to be hand delivered by the team.
They started the day out participating in a local tent church service along with 1000's of worshipers. The music was mostly in Swahili and the team's report said the sermon was incredible.
I am so thrilled that Tyler has been able to experience life in Kenya. I am trusting that just as his experiences in Indonesia profoundly impacted his life, so to will his African experiences. Wouldn't you love to say that you spent any of your birthdays with the giraffes in their native habitat? Wow...the Lord has blessed Tyler with such amazing opportunities in his life already. But more importantly, I am so thankful that Tyler has allowed God to speak into his soul and direct his path. On his 19th birthday, it is my prayer that Tyler will follow His Lord all the days of his life...no matter how uncharted the journey may be.
