When she was good, she was very, very good
..and when she was bad, she was horrid.
I can picture this Golden book with beautiful illustrations done by Eloise Wilkins. I don't remember the name of the book, but some of the lines in the book have stuck in my head for a long time.
These lines of the book describe McKenna. When she is good...she is very, very good. She is so helpful and kind and filled with compasion...she has a sense of humor that is hysterical.
And when she is bad...it's rather horrible. She screams, whines and drives most people crazy around her. She has had her share of rough times recently...and her good times too.
This morning, she was up by 6:30am with all kinds of questions for me to answer. She keeps telling me that she is looking up to Jesus so he can help her change her ways. It can be very simple at times to explain theological concepts to her at her level and then, at times, it can be very difficult to explain such abstract thinking to such a literal thinker.
Death and heaven are regular daily conversational topics with McKenna. She worries about the "clear" paddles quite a bit---you know, the defibrillators used by paramedics--- they yell "clear" before shocking someones heart back into rhythm. This morning she asked me if Jesus was going to "pull the plug" on her when she ready to die. I had to look away because I couldn't help but laugh. But then she said, "But, I don't have a plug to pull!" Ah...literal thinking can be hysterical at times. So then after realizing that she doesn't have a plug to pull she also realized that she doesn't have an hour glass that is slowing emptying either. For today, I think we can be done talking about death...since she has no plug to pull and there is no looming hour glass in sight. And with that in mind, she has proclaimed that it is gonna be a party around here today!
If you need a good laugh, give McKenna a call--she is hysterical!
