On the same day that we received the news that Elijah was going to be placed on the transplant list, Hope and Mark left for a special Father-Daughter weekend. Hope chose New York City as her destination...she couldn't wait to see a Broadway show and do some shopping and sightseeing. So with free hotel stays earned through our credit card and cheap airline tickets in hand, off they went to someplace neither of them had ever been. They had a lot of fun and it was a special time together for both of them. At 16, time seems to move so fast...and soon she will be graduating. I am amazed at God's timing in all things. We are focused on nurturing each of the other kids right now and spending lots of time in prayer for them. Each child in our family, as in any family, has unique needs during something as stressful as a bone marrow transplant. We are so incredibly thankful that we have been given some time to prepare everyone for the road ahead in any way we can. This trip for Mark and Hope could not have come at a better time. He knows just what we need before we need it.
We are spending much time in prayer for each of the kids...with their special needs, and cognitive limitations, we must rely on God to guide us in the way they need to be supported through this next year. This journey is not just Elijah's--it will be an event that will shape all of their lives in some way. We are praying that this experience will not leave our family unchanged...that our faith would be strengthened and the truth of the gospel be revealed to each of us in ways we never imagined.
Matthew 7:7-11 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
