It is official. The transplant match program has found a bone marrow match for Elijah. After the first potential donor did not work out, the next potential match on the list was a 36 year old Caucasian female.
There was no "perfect" match by human genome standards but we are trusting that this match is God's perfect one. We are trusting that, as McKenna says, "God will do what is best for Elijah."
I am so thankful for this donor. Again, we ask the questions..Who is she? Where does she live? Is she a Mom? Is she a Believer? What has brought her to this point in her life that she is willing to take her summer and give a big piece of it to Elijah...the one she only knows as a 5 year old male with Shwachman Diamond Syndrome. We are so grateful to her and there may never be the words to express how deep that gratitude lies. Humbling gratitude...
Lord willing, we will begin workup week on July 5th. Hospital admission date is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 19th. Harvesting of the bone marrow from the donor will be July 28th. Transplant will be shortly after. The dates are getting set. The details are becoming real..This is happening whether we are prepared or not.
And so we will move forward...one step at a time. Knowing that God will do what is best for Elijah. With gratitude in our hearts for a loving Father who is fully aware of what is best for each of us, we will continue to hang on to Him as we face what seems like the impossible.
For nothing will be impossible for God. Luke 1:37
