It was a long but good first day of work up week. The child life specialist that is working with us is incredible and has helped us make this experience less traumatic for Elijah. With social stories and picture schedules in hand, Elijah made his way, along with his favorite stuffed animals, to all of the necessary places he needed to go. Most everything really invasive will be done tomorrow when Elijah will be put under anesthesia..the day will be filled with a hickman line placement, an EKG and ECHO, CT scans, bloodwork, and a bone marrow biopsy. Tomorrow appears to be the longest day of our work up week.
I have to remind myself to breath deeply as I look around at the other children who are at various stages on a similar journey. My heart aches for them and for my son who will endure so much. We are feeling the ominous weight of the days ahead when we are sitting at the clinic. But, it is not overtaking us...we are holding onto hope and our confidence in God's sovereignty. Our kids at home are asking some of the questions that I knew would come. They are scared. Please pray for them.
Elijah has another family who loves him dearly. He has a 3 year old little brother and a birthmom who misses him terribly. He has lots of extended birth family who love him as well. Please pray for them as this is especially difficult for them to go through.
Tomorrow begins early with arrival at the hospital at 7am. We will keep you posted. Thank you for your prayers.
