Day +8 for Elijah has brought with it the development of mouth sores. His platelets are also low and the nausea has been intermittent. His pain meds have been increased, and he will probably receive a transfusion of platelets if his nose doesn't stop bleeding...it isn't bleeding alot but it has been bleeding off and on all afternoon. He is still doing well despite all of this today. You would be amazed to see him in person..he really still looks pretty good.
We are starting to see beautiful brown curls left on his pillow. His hair is just beginning to fall out...
I have been having trouble with my blood sugars the last two days...I had a really low blood sugar reaction two nights ago. Often, we blood sugars drop to dangerous levels, you body kicks in sugars as a protective measure and blood sugars soar. That seems to be what happened since I went from 38 in the middle of the night to 300, then 400 and then 550 by the evening. I have been struggling all day to get them to go down with extra insulin injections and now they are at a good level...but I feel wiped out not only because of lack of sleep but also because of my diabetes.
And I hurt my wrist getting up in the middle of the night with Elijah. He didn't sleep well last night. I think the mouth sores were bothering him. I am not sure what I did, but now my wrist is very sore with pain shooting up my arm. I am trying some ice packs and ibuprofin. I was hoping to get into the urgent care here but there was over a two hour wait to get in. I am sure they wouldn't do much more for me anyway.
Despite all of these little things, things are good here in room 4121. I have read two books from the recommendations that many of you shared and am starting a third! Thanks so much.
Tyler is coming home from Kenya on Tuesday for 10 days!. I am still unclear if I am going to be able to see him in person or not because of his recent (6 months ago) bout with malaria. He will have bloodwork at the international clinic here when he arrives home to determine if there are any active infections or illnesses that could put Elijah at risk. Everyone is so excited to see him...they are counting down the days.
Tyler doesn't have health insurance here because he lives abroad. His medical care here could add up quickly. With all of the added expenses during this phase of our life, we are praying that God will provide us with the funds to cover this additional expense. We have already purchased his return flight and were able to get a reasonable price... it was really important to Tyler to get home during this time...for him and for all of us.
God has brought us this far...never letting us down...and so we will entrust all these things we are facing to the God who cares about our every need...
And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19
