It's all about perspective...

You are probably thinking that I must be a squirrel whisperer...yep..that is my secret talent..

It's about perspective.
Photography. It is about seeing something you have always seen one way in a whole new light..a whole new direction..a new perspective on a familiar scene. I have always loved photography. But, I have never really learned the technical part of taking a great shot.  I honestly have just relied on the fact that I could take a lot of digital images and select the best ones . I could usually get a few great shots that way.  I have a hard time learning the process..frankly, I would read a book about aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and then I would start taking pictures and forget everything I read. I finally decided that I needed to stop reading and start doing…I needed to just start taking photos everyday. I needed to learn from my mistakes. Hands on learning is the only way I seem to be able to learn these concepts…so that is what I have been doing.
I took a photography composition class at the Stone arch bridge last week (yay for a living social deal!) I spent most of the time playing with my camera..changing settings, adjusting for the changing lighting condition and looking for interesting angles and stunning backgrounds. I loved it. I was finally getting it…I was putting into practice what I had been trying to learn for so long.
In the beginning of the session, I was so focused on aperture and exposure, that I forgot why I enjoy photography. I want to tell a story. I want to capture a new perspective of the things we see every day. I want to remind myself and those who see my pictures of the beauty all around us. ..in the small details...and in the big picture. I want others to see what I see when I look at the world…feel what I feel.  It is amazing what we see when we stretch ourselves to see things from a new perspective..I love that.
I want God to be reflected in each image...because when I calm down enough to find Him..He is always there.  I am amazed at all the little details in this world that He thought of…the gifts of beauty all around us…in our world, in our children, in our every day life. I feel surrounded by his love when I see the world from this perspective,  I feel an overwhelming sense of God’s detailed and perfect love for us. He didn’t just stop at taking care of our every need..but He gave us beauty…He gave us color and light and movement and an endless combinations of these … He loves us beyond what we can imagine…his gifts are  all around us if we just allow ourselves to slow down enough to see with His perspective.
He has given us such amazing things all around us..glimpses of himself everywhere. Loud and clear. He is here. Right with us. He is everywhere…that is the perspective I want to capture when a take a photo.  That is how I want to live my life.

The way we use our time, the way we perceive our circumstances, and the way we view others around  us…it’s all about our perspective. I want my focus to be filtered through the God's perspective. When I can only see the rough stuff...the cold, cruel world, I want to look deeper...stop seeing through the tunnel vision I have set up for myself at times and see from a new angle..God's angle. I want to live my life through His perspective. There is an undiscovered world out there waiting for me...I just know it.

3 Kind Words:

  1. I am so happy that in the midst of parenting your beautiful family you are able to pursue a hobby. One that will tell your family's story, no less!

  2. Those are beautiful!

The best part, though, is thinking of you having the time to yourself to take such a class and then get to be out and about learning these new skills. The main thing that comes through those images is tranquility, peace in place. Ahhhhhhhh.

  3. Incredible. Pictures and words. One day, I'll meet ya in heaven and I'll tell you how this post encouraged me so much on this particular day. Thank you from Texas.
