Isaac has been having intermittent bleeding from his stomach. It was usually followed by a bout of some really heavy duty hiccups. I have always thought that we have the best pediatric gastroenterologist around and today, she confirmed my feelings again. She listened. She respected our opinions and observations about our child and she affirmed us as parents of a medically complex child. After being chastised by two other gastroenterologists for being concerned about
"a little bleeding," I was relieved to hear Doctor Kennedy say just what we had been feeling...
...She said that if you or I were vomitting up blood, we would want to know where it was coming from. And just because Isaac had a g-j tube and lots of other issues, we don't want to assume that we know what is going on...and that we want to make sure that we aren't missing something that might be going on. She acknowledged the value of the comfort and health of our child...acknowledged the value of his precious life. She cares...and she knows what she is doing..that is my definition of a great Doctor!
Isaac had an endoscopy, g-j tube replacement and biopsy. The placement of the IV took longer than the whole procedure itself. Besides the multiple bruises he will have from the IV start attempts, he looks great. He is home..smiley and happy.
He is such a great kid..so glad he is in our life.
